|
|
Ok, seeing that i am on the hunt for a new phone by Sunday the most appropriate time to ask is now:
I was sold over the N73 till i saw the HTC S710.
I would like to ask if the S710 would be a better choice over the N73. My uses for the phone include calling people and text msging ( ), using GPRS, editing and creating articles in word files, using the cam and the music. The last 2 are strictly recreational and are used only occationally.
Currently the S710 retails for Rs. 17,000 (US$ 415) here in Mumbai. So what do u guys think? |

Well it's running windows mobile instead of sybmian. Would prefer a touch screen tho as there is a lot of things to do and not sure how easy it is with the keypad. Not a fan of keyboards but then I've never used this device so cant comment all that much.
I like the SE P1, it's bout 460€ or the HTC touch is nice too, running windows mobile 6.
After reading this I've realized u still not closer to making a decision but anyway

Well, i just saw the phone for the first time, and first impression of it on me is pretty cool.... i like the sliding keyboard and the nice kool design. It running widows can only help you work with your documents and spreadsheets as u wanted.
Also about the n73, well, I've been using one since the past 4-5 months now i guess, and it hasn't let me down in any aspect, the cap quality, the sound output, the brilliant screen, and its overall size. And being Symbian, you can expect almost next to anything from it with new S60 3rd Edition Apps popping up every day.
In the end, the decision lies with you,
Windows or Symbian?
2MP Cam or 3.2 MP Cam
Wifi or No Wifi
no 3G or 3G
All in all the expect the HTC to loose in from the n73 in terms of Cam power and features like autofocus etc and maybe on the sound quality thru the speakers since the stereo output of the n73 is pretty much the best one i have yet experienced.
Make sure you get to check the HTC hands on before u go in for the kill...
Good Luck. |

So i finally bought the phone last night Got the N73-ME in the end.. my intial impressions of the phone:
1. Keys on keypad are too small (guess i've been spoilt by the k750 keypad)
2. The keypad doesnt autolock... and when it does you have to enter a FIVE digit code to unloch again.. grrr... (will edit this if i find an app or something to just autolock the phone)
3. There is a small blue light near the secondary camera in the front that flashes occationally. Can get annoying.. still havent found a way to disable that.
4. The "Music" app wont shut off. A waste of memory resources IMHO.
5. The Nokia Suite is CRAP !! When I deleted some sms fom it after syncing the phone, it deleted them from the phone too.. grr.. I should have expected that but i guess i was going the MyPhoneExplorer route again.. will see how i can backup sms in a better way.
6. Amazing high contrast screen.. pulls out all the battery juice in a few hours of constant use! :p (i had to tone it down considerably)
7. Wonderful camera. Beuatiful high contrast images (or mayb its the screen) that makes a below average photograper look decent
Still coming to grips with the phone. Things should get better once I get the hang of the Symbian OS. 2yrs of SE simplicity has taken its toll on me. |

Well the rest of the points are well... your views, this how ever can b changed by switching off the sleep mode, this light is well just a way to tell the user that the phones still on because enabling the sleep mode completely shuts the screen off...
I like the flashy light though, vey much... |

| Ah yes! Thanks maxrush. Btw.. I have sms backups saved in .sms files from MyPhoneExplorer. Any idea how I can get them exported via the Nokia PC Suite or any other program to the N73? |

Well follow the following instructions:
If you doing the intended with backup or sync option i will advise you not to do it.
Simply copy the *.vmg files from the phone into your computer.
Then connect the N73 and paste the files in the message section. It should work.
The only things that you should keep in consideration that the pc suite version has to be same. And the connection type also. This would not bother a much but yet for a safety precaution.
If you used one of the very latest PC Suite versions to make a backup of the phone, then using the same PC Suite version, you can restore the phone backup (using the "Content Copier" backup/restore application in PC Suite).
If you still have the previous phone, you can also try the "Transfer" app that should be on the N73 already. _________________

I'd rather you start a separate topic about this... Going offtopic.

Last post about this:
Using MyPhoneExplorer, import the file into the SMS-Archive and then choose Upload to phone.
Let's get back to topic now, shall we? _________________
